Most people that know me, know that I am a smart ass, have a warped sense of humor, and above all, they know that I do not like to get mad. But something has been bothering me. It was not long ago that I was engaged in a conversation where it was me and a couple people across the pond. In this conversation, I was responding thinking that this was good conversation. Instead it was taken as my feathers getting ruffled (which wow... that is so far off base... welcome to la la land). Of course to diffuse the situation, then it was said that she's American (referring to me). I know I should not have let that bother me, but there was a part that set me right off. It wasn't the delivery of the message, it was the person who received the message said I figured (or something like that) and then all was well. I really struggled because I wanted to tear into that girl and hang her outside for the vultures to pick at. But I chalked it up to either a. ignorance or b. it was a joke. The problem is, at what point does a joke lose the funny punchline and turn into something serious? It really bothers me sometimes that people who do not know me at all, can generalize that I am American, so I must be an asshole, dumb as a box of rocks, and a plethora of other adjectives that put me in the same category as Teletubbies (only they speak better English).
CNN had an article up about the US and if it was still one of the global moral leaders. For the most part, the article was favorable. I don't think we are #1 in the class of moral leadership, but we're not the bottom of the barrel either. Yet, you can't have an article that gives America a smidgen of praise without some troll getting on there and turning it into a bash America fest. Then there was something on Youtube, some Arab festival in Michigan was disturbed by Christian protesters. Blah blah blah.... yay a pissing match of religions. But that was not what irritated me. You can put two people in a room and eventually they'll come to blows over something. It was the comment made below that once again put America in the dumb ass category. So I made a comment asking this person if he had been in America and met every single American that existed on this planet. Of course he has not, because he does not even live in this country. Great! So you're basing your opinion of Americans on shit you see on Youtube? You show me a country where there are no idiots, and I will pack my bags and move over there promptly. Of course his answer was partially written in sentences that made sense. And then he said something that set me off even more. It was YOUR Supreme Court that made it constitutional for big business. Uh... big business WHAT? WTF did the Supreme Court do? Don't even try to talk Constitutional law with me if you cannot even finish a sentence. World leader in stupid? Holy crap... even if we are number 1, there are plenty of other countries that are picking up the pace and could be passing us shortly if they already aren't running right beside us.
I just needed to vent. It is just really starting to bug me that I already have an auto tag of dumb ass just because of the country I was born in.
